SEASONING/BREAKING IN A NEW RIFLE BARREL

Aight guys i just bought me a new .257 wtby and have had some people tell me different ways to season the barrel ... I personally have never done this but i have also had guns with the riflings get destroyed so i am willing to try to prevent that with this gun ... any and all suggestions would be a[ppreciated ... some say do and some say it is a waste of time what is your opinion and if you do this what procedures are used ... thanks

Most things I have seen say put about two boxes of bullets through it, cleaning it about every 5-6 shots.

Breaking in a new rifle is a must for top accuracy....

Go to the krieger barrel web site and follow their instructions. The most labor intensive part will be removing the copper. I suggest bore tech extreme or shooters choice aqua clean

A .257 wby mag? My guess is this won't be a target rifle, but a shoot-a-few-times-a-year bean-field rifle. DON'T BOTHER! You'll be spending a lot of money and time to gain a minute amount of accuracy, or maybe none at all.

Hand lap the barrel yourself before you do anything and seasoning it will be that much easier. A good rod, jag, tight patches and some JB bore compound after you clean the hell out of it with some Hoppes and you'll be good to go. Clean the oil out, dry patch it, hand lap, Krieger method, drive nails...
