That year they dug that pond at Crossgates. That's when I knew, THESE were my people. I went and got some big booty stickers for my truck, $3,700.00 of acrylic duck calls, wrote a check for DU, and BAM, here I am today!

Went on my 1st hunting trip in December of 1981. I was 9 months old. Made my 1st trip into the field when I was 4. Killed my 1st duck at 10. Mom and Dad made a deal that my brother and I wouldn't carry a gun until we were 10 and passed hunter's safety.

I shot my first ducks around 1983. It was just woodies in beaver ponds but I loved it just the same. I was only 13 and my dad wouldn't duck hunt because it interfered with deer hunting so I quit after a couple years. I picked it back up on my own about 6 years ago.

Prolly 1985 or 6. Growing up, my family always hunted birds, which = quail back then. But I had this so-called friend who talked me into going duck hunting while we were in college. Some day I'll get even with him.....

When I was in elementary school my grandpa would drop me off at the pond with my single shot 20 guage and a case of shells and tell me to kill as many of them things as I could becasue he was convinced they were gonna bring in algae to his pond, he also told me to leave the ones I killed because they were not any good to eat......fast forward to early high school decided to take a real duck hunter to the spot he was ready to leave after we saw nothing and I was like heck man, its not time for them to be here yet, they will pour in the last 30 min of light. That was when I learned about what roost shooting being illegal. Started really duck hunting about 6 years ago. Would not trade any of these experiences for anything.
