Prayers needed...update 7/15

My 8 month old pup needs a few extra prayers tonight. The past 24 hours have been hard. He went for an active pup as normal to what seemed like a depressed and stiff puppy in a matter of a few hours. Last night he started not wanting to lay down then not wanting to get up this morning. Got him to the vet earlier today. They ran some blood work and didn't really find anything other than a high white blood cell count. His temp was between 104-105 (so the vet tech said) at around 9:45 this morning. He was put on antibiotics and released for the vet. Check his temp about an hour ago and it was at 104.9. Next to parvo I think this is the sickest dog I have seen in my life. I'm going to play it out through the night but if his temp doesn't drop some I'll be heading back to the vet in the morning.

Please keep my wife, myself, and our pup Tucker in you prayers!

Thanks,

MR

We ended up taking Tucker to the vet school last night around 10 when his temp got up to 105.5. The vet made some strong indication that his symptoms looked like a tick borne infection but also had concern about neurological issue due to his demeanor. They suggested that he be kept over night in ICU where they can monitor his temp and give him IV just in case.

As of this morning his temp has dropped from 105+ to 103.1. The doc said although his temp was better he still did not look comfortable. He is still extremely stiff and will not bend his head down to take water for the floor. If the bowl is held up he will drink from it. They also said that he made a little effort to eat this morning but bending to the food made it difficult. We are still waiting on the snap test results to cover any tick borne infections and CBC test results to compare with what was taken yesterday. They are also running some spinal x-rays after the blood work to rule out any from of spinal infection or injury. The x-rays were hinted as a possibility last night but after this mornings physical exam the doc noticed some tenderness around his front shoulder and "a tail around his tail" (not sure about the last). We will hopefully know more about his condition after lunch.

Thanks for the thoughts and prayers. Keep 'em coming.

I am writing this as I am trying to gather my thoughts about what is going on. Last word from the vet was all of Tuckers blood work for tick borne infection has came back negative. The radiography/x-ray came back negative for any back/vertebrae inflammation or infection. All this seems like good news but to use it just seems that we are farther away from a diagnosis. They are keep him over night again and have started him on a IV hydration drip along with some muscle relaxers. He is currently taking two different antibiotics and an anti-inflammatory to help with some of the joint stiffness.

The morning will bring new obstacles with spinal and joint taps. God willing we will find some result that can lead to a treatment before we have to go much farther. We know that he is in great hands but it is so hard to see an pup that is normally so energetic, playful, and loving get beat down so hard by something that we can't figure out.

Thanks again for the thoughts and prayers!
