question about gravel for new lodge...help appreciated
Does anyone know the cost to gravel a road? We are trying to budget for a lodge we are building on the equity club we are developing. Approximately 1 mile. It is located inside the ms river levee and the road is in place, just no gravel. Located in northern issaquena county.

I have a guy that could get that done for you. He is out of Yazoo County and has done work for me in the past. He will probably want to see it if that would be ok. Let me know

11, Bob Wright from Clarksdale has bought the crushed concrete pile stored on HWY 61 in Shelby, Its cheaper than gravel and sets up better.

Thanks guys. Just trying to get an idea. We are building a 7400 sqft lodge, so trying to get the best prices we can. I have no problem with someone taking a look. PM me his information and we can talk.

Definitely go with the crushed conc., and since you're inside the levee, plan on re-placing it every other year or so.

we hauled for two days straight with our dump trailer when hill bros had it.. it was 250 a load... but we hauling two loads in our trailer at a time.... we were staying on the backroads and truck was netting over 80k.. tipping scales at little over 115k gross... our drives around here on made out of it.. sets up hard and dries quick...

Good news is the road is on a spur levee that does not flood.

I'd guess crushed concrete (delivered) would be in the $10-$15/ton range depending on availability. You can roughly figure the total weight to be about 105lbs/sy/in of material...so 1 sy (9SF) x 105lbs x each inch of stone gives you the total lbs. Divide that by 2,000 to get tons...this is an approximate theoretical quantity without any waste. Prolly another couple dollars per SY to place it.

Don't know if I'd use the crushed concrete....I've heard the same thing about all crushed concrete, having wire in it....I did build a one mile gravel road two years ago that cost $10K for the gravel and spreading....it is approx. 10 feet wide, and at least four inches thick.

I would use the large size gray slag. It sets up much better than gravel does. It does cost a bit more though. We put it on our mile long road to the camp about 10 years ago and haven't had to put any more down since then.

If you want something thats gona be there go with 610 it has a binder that will harden up like concrete....Gravel if ya can get any good gravel (which most will be sand and very little rock) will have to be maintained all the time ...slag will not bind and you will loose it over time as it moves ....crushed concrete has no binder and foreign objects .....610 rock is the way to go but aint cheap BUT it will be there for ever........
1.25 mile rd of 610 10'wide
3in thick =1200 tons
4in thick =1600 tons
1.25 mile rd of 610 12'wide
3in thick =1300 tons
4in thick =1800 tons
Price of the materials delivered $35.75 Ton (thats material and delivery only)
We can come up and talk with ya on the processing of the rock and give ya an estimate or you can spread it yourself...BUT spreading this stuff aint like spreading gravel have to know how to do it properly to maximize the rock...Its not a cheap thing that you will have to maintain...this is what the levee board it puttin down all over the levees that need work...by far the way to go IF you can afford it...

I built my driveway out of 610 limestone and will say I will never build another driveway out of 610. I have no limestone right now with all the rain we've had this year. My next load will be #57 limestone which is regular crushed limestone. 610 is regular crushed, but with the washout from a concrete mixing company.
Below is a link for a local company that gives you pictures of what the different types of limestone is.
