In Alabama we usually shoot those passing woodrows at 20+, but mallards and gaddaddies about 10-20 sometimes out further if they ain't cooperating but skybusting is not an option.

I am not sure.

I have been trying to get a guestimate so I can improve my shooting skills. I tried to measure out these distances at the trap shooting range today. I don't think I kill them consistently at any more than 35 yards, but because I rarely break clay targets at 35 yards.

You just gotta learn to swing thru and by doing that you're in the motion and then when you judge your range you squeeze one off. Start closer and if the first one don't connect move further out, after all thats what them 2 other shells are for. Oh and another thing, STEEL is usually a whole lot faster than dove loads. So once you find a load that patterns out of your gun keep shooting that load and you will become a better shot after you figure out the speed and lead of that load. Believe me, if you keep swapping up loads there will be different speeds in there and you're never going to shoot consistently. My load is 3 inch BlackCloud #4's, I shoot them almost exclusively because they work for me.

One other thing a veteran waterfowler told me is that if you're shooting a modified choke with lead dove loads that same choke with steel will be a full. So you gotta get accurate and there really isn't any need(in my opinion) for those extra full chokes, its already tight enough as it is. I shoot a Benelli Nova with a Kicks modified choke and a 26 inch barrel.

majority 10 or less. Ballistics aren't great with my BB gun, so I can't take them long shots.
