Beware of RCA Products!!

Postby driveby » Fri Sep 11, 2009 8:33 am

Hey guys, this is just a head's up. The following is an email a good friend and co-worker of mine sent to me. This is not one of those bogus chain emails that has been forwarded a thousand times and not something he received in an email. This is his own actual experience and email to me. I thought I would pass it along to you. My friends name is Steve.

I’m speaking from personal experience so take it for what it’s worth. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY RCA PRODUCT.

I have an LCD rca television that is 6 months old with a one year warranty. Rca will not honor the warranty because they do not repair the tv, they only replace them. Since they only replace them they say the warranty is invalid because they do not change parts in it, so you have to pay $100 to have it exchanged. Rca is now owned by the Chinese and they don’t care what you think about it. They said they didn’t care if you never purchase an rca product again or if you told everyone you know not to purchase an rca product. There is also a 2 year extended warranty on it from Wal-Mart, but they said they will not honor it until the 1 year manufacturer warranty is up. The authorized service center, which is American, said the Chinese bought rca, but they don’t care anything about it and they are probably going to end the rca name by either changing it to something else or shutting it down completely. The service center can not get parts because the Chinese will not release them. Even while talking to their customer support, which you can barely understand, when you ask to speak to a supervisor they tell you no they don’t have to let you speak to a supervisor and there is nothing else you can do about it except pay the $100.

Sent an email to rca customer service asking why I had to pay $100 to exchange a tv that was under warranty. You are going to think I’m making this up, but it is 100% true. They emailed back and said the question was too complicated. I can’t believe it’s to this point, but here we are.

Hell!! RCA hasn't built anything on their own in years. There have been only 2 companies in the world that made VCRs and they would add other companies logos on them.
There's a reason it's called fishin'& huntin' instead of catchin'& killin'

Here is my personal experience. I have done contracted labor with American Systems, the warranty company for rca and polaroid. Most have been for polaroid but some 3 have been for rca. I dont know if you have different warranty types or what but when we accepted those three work orders we realized that it states the customer has to bring the tv to us. They set us up like a repair depot somewhat. Here was the deal, one was in Houston, she had taken hers back because they took so long to get a work order out to us. The second had to drive from Mooreville and we fixed hers when we got the parts in. The third was going to have to come from Fulton and she said I am not driving it that far, understandably because they would have to make a second trip to pick it up. Most of all of them said they had been waiting a minimum of 2 weeks and havent heard from anyone. Now were the fault lies, I dont know. I have heard the same thing on some of my polaroid calls so I wonder if the common denominator isnt American Systems somewhat. Either way, seeing the insides of the RCA's I dont think I will be buying one anytime soon. THey are so light and cheaply made. I wouldnt buy a Polaroid either. I have not heard of the $100 dollar thing going on with any of those calls but all three have been depot type repairs. Now they may be trying to get that 100 to send a tech onsite vs the depot repair and someone didnt read the warranty. I dont know what the warranty says myself. Thats not pointing fingers but trying to figure something out. Thats the only conclusion that I can come up with, with what I know. Either way I totally agree. No more RcA
