hunt test question......

Postby augie » Thu Jun 04, 2009 8:29 pm

here is a question for those of you that run akc hunt tests.....this past week we had a master hunt test where the "land blind" brought up some controversy because it was about half water and half land......and dogs got dropped for cheating the water part of the blind. it was an angle entry on the corner of a pond....what is your take on this? can a land blind have any water in it, and keep in mind some of the water was swimming water too.
If your not hunting with a trained dog, your just walking around.

first thought is that if it were the land test, there is no reason to have water in it when other two series does have water. But if it was a land/water.....have seen dogs dropped many times for this. I have seen worse, for sure.

AKC Master TEST......anything goes. Combo land-water series happen sometimes.
Yes the land blind can have water in it.
How much water is determined by.................you guessed it. The judges. 8)

First thing you should have to understand when running AKC. The rule book is nothing other than a book of suggestions, not rules.... If you read it you will see there are a lot of "should not" where the average person would think it would be a "shall not"

Plus it could have been a "Land marks" and the Water blind or the land-water blind

Very simple answer for running this blind and any other master blind. When running a blind in master. If the line to the blind cuts a corner of water then put the dog in the water. The line was put there for a reason. You as a handler should be smart enough to pick that out. Same thing with a water blind. If the line goes over a point then put your dog on that point.

I agree with trykon. if there is a specific line that the judges want to see the dog run, then the handler should put the dog on it. the line was put there for a reason. so if the blind goes through water..on to a point of land..back in the water..and the bird is on the next point of land, run that exact line and everything will be fine.
