Walnut Lake?

Postby greenheadgrimreaper » Mon Oct 20, 2008 9:10 am

Had a guy refer me to Walnut Lake for some crappie fishing. Is this place open to fishing? If so where is the guy with the boat ramp? How much for launching, and can I get directions from Senatobia? Thanks.

Tunica County?

No boat ramp. Our guys did a depth map on it a few years ago.

A typical case of public oxbow with no public access. I think most folks put in on the county ROW by the bridge.

Thanks for the info is there anywhere that I can find a map to get to the place? I would like to put my canoe in and do a little perch jerkin.

Type in "walnut lake, tunica county, ms" in your google maps search bar. It will put you in the field just to the west of the lake.

Go west on Sarah Road off of Hwy 3 and you should go right to the bridge.

Wingman,
Would the county ROW by the bridge be considered public access or would one still have to get permission.
I always see trucks there but did not know if anyone can put in there or not. Thanks

As far as bank fishing/wading/ putting in a canoe is concerned, in my opinion, the ROW is fine.

If you're launching a heavy boat and there is no legit ramp, you might get into trouble with the county if you tear up the ROW.

That said, I just had a public ramp built on the county ROW on Wasp Lake down here. That way, when the 20 year lease runs out, I know that it will be much easier to get the county to renew it than a landowner if I had built it in another spot.

Public ramp built on ROW on Wolf in Yazoo County this summer, too.

I checked it out. Looks legal, and looks like a canoe will slide in quite easily. 8)
