My Generation

Postby Bankermane » Mon May 12, 2008 1:56 pm

I happen to think i grew up in the most perfect time in history. I remember muscle cars with three on the column> Power steering, power brakes, and air conditioners were luxury items. Every Saturday nite was drag racing at mid night. Dirt roads, parking, and fighting girdles were Saturday nite entertainment or public dances with bands like The Gants, Jim Weatherly and the Vegas, and Tim Whitsett and the Imperials. One of my favorite past times was going to the bootleggers. Drive down a dirt road , stop at a bush, and blow the horn. A hand comes out with two half pints of Charter. You could be a twelve year old in pajamas and still buy whiskey.

Here's a little ditty about my generation. Some of you may remember the old times.

Being born in 71. I can somewhat relate.. I always thought I was born about 15 years to late.. I used to sing Elvis songs when I was 4.. .Still remember his death and my Mom crying at the gates of Graceland about 2 weeks after his death.. Dad and I got busted trying to crawl up the wall to see his cars in the back of his house..

That being said...The 70's were a pretty good time to be a kid.. Here are some 70's memories

I was born in 72. I don't know first hand, but it it would appear that at least the early to mid 60's was a good time to grow up.

I think the hippies, drugs, anti american and anti war sentiment left a terrible mark on the decade though. Was there anything GOOD form the late sixties????

I squeaked in at the end of the "free love" decade....Got to hit puberty about the time everybody started to realize they all had VD from the last decade....
So much for all the "free love" and go-go boots with mini-skirts...We got stuck with the platform shoes and polyester.

I always miss all the good stuff...

Sometimes I find myself wishing I was born in those days.
