Bogue Homa!!!!!

Postby Denduke » Mon Apr 21, 2008 5:12 pm

Sent an email to Kevin B. about duck huntin there before reopening for fishin. Heard they were gonna let'em ski there soon. Here's his reply.....

Good to hear from you Dennis. I spoke with the state lakes coordinator and it sounds like we should be able to have waterfowl hunting on Bogue Homa this year. Because of the public notice (F12-3423) we have some things we have to work around: 1) Both teal hunting and regular waterfowl season hunting will have to be draw hunts, 2) the lake can only be open Thursday through Sunday, and 3) you cannot have any fishing equipment in the boat with you while hunting. We plan on having waterfowl harvest cards at Bogue Homa this year, like we had a Neshoba County Lake last year, to monitor hunter effort and harvest. After we get a year or two of data under the draw hunt system, we can make a defensible argument for or against draw hunts on Bogue Homa.

Look for the teal season draw applications sometime after mid July and the regular waterfowl hunting draw applications after the first part of October.

That is a beautiful lake for waterfowl. I can't believe that it is located in South MS. It looks like a a cypress lake that you would find in the delta. Definately a little piece of heaven out from Laurel. The fishing was great there when I went to USM and the duck hunting was great too. We killed mallards and gadwalls there all the time and they would really come to the call due to lack of pressure. That may have changed since 1998, but still glad to hear that they are bringing back the hunting. :D :D
