Duck was not killed in MS but in the MS flyway. My uncle from Metarie, LA killed a harlequin duck down in South Pass below Venice, LA back in 1992. He thought it was a coot swimming in the decoys and took a shot at it, turned out to be a harlequin.

according to .12% of the hunting population (98% of that .12% seem to post here by the way), the mallard duck is quite the rarity in Mississippi these days.

I know a boy that shot a scooter in AR this past season. They also shot some in Camden, TN this past season too. All ducks I have seen or killed in MS have been of the common variety

A guy from here killed a Red Brested Merganser and a Golden Eye a few years ago. Other than that we have killed some Ruddy Ducks and Buffle head.
