I attended the Annual WMA meeting last night and as I knew it would the issue of antler restrictions and feeding came up.
I will be attending future meeting on the issues that are now up for the governors signature.
What I would like to do is get some feed back to the issues that are important to us as related to ranking deer antler size and width and the feeding/baiting issue.
My first question is what you as hunters see as the benefit for purposing new restrictions on antler size. How will it affect the user groups (still hunters, dog hunters)
What are the pitfalls of restricting harvest of certain antler sized deer.
What is the reason for antler restriction as you see it.
As for the baiting/feeding issue
What is it that you like or oppose relating to feeding deer.
What are the benefits and what are the pitfalls.
How are green fields different in your opinion.
How are salt and mineral licks different in your opinion.
And lastly and very important – How would your feel about restrictions related all man made crops for the attraction of game. The new bill is a two part bill. One is the feeding of game and the other is using feed as bait to attract game. Knowing this are you willing to accept the ruling that planted crops may be considered bait.
Understand that these questions are questions that will be brought up in future meetings and will need to be addressed soon. With your help I can develop a small sampling of hunters opinions as they relate to new laws that may soon be signed in.
If you choose not to post you may email me directly and I promise all input will be used.
