Here is one from opening wknd. Killed about 7:20 at about 25 steps. He strutted and drummed like crazy on his path of death. 1st opening wknd turkey for me in my life. 20lbs 9 inch beard and 1 1/8 inch spurs.
This one is from this wknd. He is a two year old that I killed in the afternoon 5:30-6:00. He was with hens and some jakes. I called to him and he strutted for a minute and started towards me. He disappeared under the crest of the ridge I was atop of. I thought he might be coming my way when the hens began feeding that way. In a few minutes I started to hear him drumming and sat up a little straighter and could see that white head and the top of his fan. In a few more minutes he got in easy shotgun range at about 35 steps. 9 3/4 inch beard, 3/4 inch spurs, and 17 lbs.
I started this year out with the motto, "Finish the deal" after missing turkeys once each of the last two years. On the second one, I thought I would hyperventilate before he got to the point I could shoot him and I almost forgot how to aim my freakin gun There ain't nothing that gets me that shook up.
Both of these were killed with heavy shot #5s and neither flopped around. They were dead quickly. I agree with Jelly...I ain't that good, but the sun will shine on a dog's ax every now and then.
