Feeding call
What "word" or syllable do yall blow into the call to make the feeding call/chatter? I've heard someone suggest a "tikka tikka tikka" mehtod of making the call, but I still find it difficult to consistently keep a rhythm or cadence to the call. Maybe it's just gentically impossible for me or maybe it's just my slow southern drawl preventing me from perfecting this particular call. Or maybe I just haven't found the right call... I can keep it up for a few seconds, but after that it falls apart. Any suggestions?

It takes a lot of practice, that much I can tell you right off the bat. It's something you won't pick up away. I use diga diga diga diga diga, duga duga duga duga duga or ticka ticka tooka ticka ticka tooka, depends on whether I'm doing a feed, overhead chatter or chatter quack. The tip of your tongue should be hitting the backside of your top teeth or between the gums and roof of your mouth at a rapid rate. The faster you can get your tongue to moving, the smoother the feed transition will be.

In my opinion, a lot of folks get confused with duck blind calling and stage calling. I used to try to do the long rolling feed calling you hear on the stage, and that is not what I hear ducks doing on the pond or timber. The long rolling "diga-diga-diga-diga...." can be heard in flight chatter, but what I have heard on the pond and timber is two to three nots of "dug, dug, dug", but not rolling. If you can get your hands on Echo's "Timber Heat I or II" you will hear what I am talking about.
Also, before anyone slams me, I am not saying that the long stage rolling "feed" calls will not call in ducks, it just isn't what I have heard the ducks make.
Then again, this comes from a person whe, unlike GH22, can't do the long stage "feed" chuckle.

not a big fan of the feed call...I mean think about it if ducks are feeding they arent quacking
mostly what you hear of ducks on the water is like GH22 mentioned a series of short quacks or clucks if you will
most of the time I hear ducks chattering like what you call a traditional feed call is when the ducks are in the air
the doc
