GC -- Yes you probably will need the high rings for a 50mm scope, and no it should not cause you any problems with eye relief.

with my 50mm VXIII on my 300 WSM A-Bolt I used Leupold High rings, but looking at it I probably could've gotten away with medium rings. I did put a comb raising kit on on the gun as well...the beartooth neoprene. Otherwise I would have to raise my head a little bit, but then again I like to shoot my rifles with my cheek firmly on the stock like a shotgun, even though it may not be necessary with a scope.

Just get the new Leupold with the 50mm but mount's low.
