What about the pond out on Artesia Rd. (off Oktoc) by the apartments and car wash in the middle of nowhere? Still too big? Highlands?
There used to be one on the Pipe Line by the road - go down Old Mayhew Rd. towards the Ford Place, at the top of the hill there is a gravel road on the right, after the s curve there is a small pond (or used to be when I used to ride bikes out there - I've fallen into it before) right off the road on the left - may have trouble with snakes though. There is another one off the actual pipe line (further up the gravel road where the barriers go across the pipe line) - you'll have to walk to it though - if you are even allowed on the pipe line now (may be part of Highlands development). Go down the actual pipe line up and down a couple of hills, the pond is at the bottom of one of the hills on the right (used to be a ditch that went across and the pond is maybe 20 yards off the main line). Other than that I don't know. Maybe you could make friends with a cattle farmer and get permission to use a cow pond, they are all over in the country (mainly out towards the refuge).

Don't know about the catfish ponds myself. We used to raise some in the Delta, and I can tell you I quit eating catfish for a long time, because of all the chemicals we dumped in that water to get them on flavor. Knowing that, maybe they don't do that over this way the ponds around Starkville may be different. But wouldn't let my boy swim in one and for sure no livestock ponds.
