I think one of Bill Waller's strongest attributes is Leadership. Having served 20 years on the Miss Supreme Court, 10 of those as Chief Justice, and rising to the rank of Brigadier General in the Miss Nat'l Guard, tells me that he is a true leader and knows how to work with everyone. I think he will expect everyone around him to do their job in a competent and professional manner, and report the results back to him. As contrasted with Tate who my impression is, rules with an iron fist, and expects everyone to do exactly what he tells them to do.

Waller understands the importance of a modern, safe and efficient infrastructure system throughout the State, and the fact that it impacts every Mississippian in a multitude of ways. Our infrastructure system certainly effects our economic development capabilities, but it also effects education, healthcare, quality of life, and certainly public safety. He also understands that what we have got to do is to provide a long term stable funding mechanism for infrastructure, and the only real way to do that is thru the fuel tax, which is the quintessential user fee. Sure there are some other mechanisms that can be used to generate this revenue, but the bulk of it does and will continue to come from the fuel tax. Our fuel tax in Miss is $0.184 cents per gallon, and that was set in 1987, thus our revenue stream has pretty much been stagnant for the past 32 years. Waller has the balls to address this issue and adjust that tax to create the long term stable funding mechanism that is required.

As opposed to Tate, who crafted legislation during the special session last year to fund infrastructure for a 10 year period based on the lottery, sports betting, and internet sales/use tax. He says that he has put a billion dollars into infrastructure, but that is not really an accurate statement. He leaves out the fact that that is for a 10 year period and then everything but the internet sales/use tax sunsets. Also, that means he thinks it will average $100 million per year over 10 years, when the MEC recognized a need of a minimum of $375 Million per year.

So this is just my $.02 worth on the gov's race.......

Call me old fashion but anyone campaigning to legalize marijuana won’t get my vote. More negatives than positives and opens up a entire new box of problems. As for Tate...... I can see where he rubs many wrong but as far as a republican candidate he has the cash on his side so we will see if that and name recognition get him across the finish line against hood.

What about legalizing medical marijuana? I got a very surprising political call about that the other day.

In my opinion, if we could get more of the people on opioids off them and smoking a joint a day, we’d be a lot better off. Grocery stores and restaurants would thrive and crime would go down.

I saw an article where a Colorado study showed that teenage use of marijuana has actually decreased since it’s been legalized.

I don’t know that you would see kids stumbling around stoned everywhere?

Freedom can be scary.
