IH 800 plate planter

Postby stang67 » Sun May 05, 2019 4:22 pm

Any DSers spent time around one of these? I bought a 2-row version that’s in good shape. Trying to learn about how to use, adjust, but all the stuff I find online seems a little over this food plotter’s head. Looking to plant sunflowers and maybe soybeans in the future. I can’t even determine exactly which users manual I should order.

Wingman would be a good source of Info. Don’t know if he is around here much anymore.

Matching the plate size to the seed size is important. It probably has sprockets? Sprocket size can impact the plant population.

Tim, (Wingman) is Rob Heflin on fb. He is active on his personal page. I’m sure you could shoot him a pm and he could help.

One simple measure to get the right sprocket is to measure the circumference of the wheel with a string and see how many seeds it puts out in one full rotation. If you know how far apart you want the seeds to be you can figure out your sprocket using this trial and error method.

Yeah, I got that. I just don’t know how to get a different sprocket if that test shows I need a different one. Seems this should be easier to find.

I would think some of the ag equipment places could head you in the right direction.
