Help with squirrels in my house

Postby Long Cut » Wed May 30, 2018 10:40 am

So I’ve known for a while that they are in my attic. I’ve trapped them and disposed of them. The entrance whole is large and I’m waiting in a contractor to come do some extensive trim work that includes replacing the area the arboreal vermin are infiltrating my home.
The last 2 nights/mornings they have been cranking up about 4am. This morning I had enough and started beating the walls and ran 2 out as I can see the entrance/exit from my master bedroom window.
Fast fwd 7am I’m sitting on the couch in the living room googling how to get rid of squirrels in the attic and one of the little SOBs comes creeping out of my bedroom into the living room with me. I’m thinking I’m hallucinating but I wasn’t. After a Christmas vacation type squirrels hearding I got him out.
I go looking for the entrance point thinking it was an air vent or something but in my master closet I find a fist sized hole in the Sheetrock that it punched through.

What the crap do I do now. The are breaking through my walls into my house. I have 2 traps set but the got to get these things out now that they are physically invading the interior of my home.

Can you put some wire of some kind over the hole until the contractor gets it repaired properly? What are you doing with them after you have trapped them?

It’s the only way to be sure.

I think you should just keep trapping them.

What I would do is trap them live, attach small go pro cameras to their back’s and drive them away from your house say five or 10 miles and let them go. When they return, you will have enough video footage to make a remake of the movie homeward bound.

There’s no telling what sort of trouble those pesky rodents would wind up in on their journey back home?

Seriously, My mom had them in her attic one time and some pest control specialist came out and installed some sort of one-way door over the entrance so that they could not get back in once they came out and I think she had to leave that there for sometime until they died of natural causes.

Tacking up wire is my next step but I have to make sure I have them and any applicable babies out first. I’m pretty sure they leave during heat of day.
The ones I’ve trapped are getting taken about 7 miles away. I should probably just kill them to make sure but have not done that yet.
Had to rig up the hole in my closet wall that it chewed through with steel wool and industrial duct tape until I can patch that.

Is there anything that works at repelling them or driving them out. Thinking about puttting a cat in the hole and seeing if that helps. My luck cat would get stuck.

Funniest thing about it is I had a painter coming to give me a quote. He pulled up right when this happened. He had to help me wrangle the thing outside. Painter got tickled cause squirrel was running across the piano back and forth like he was playing. Painter said he and some friends had been in the “ shine” last night so I’m sure he was wondering what he’d gotten himself into this morning.

Your most essential step is exclusion. Thoroughly inspect your house for any holes through which they may enter the building. Seal these openings and occasionally check them to make sure no new holes have been made.
