Something of interest

Postby Wildfowler » Fri May 18, 2018 5:32 pm

So the other day I was talking to myself here on this board and thought that it would be fun to post “something of interest” to me.

Doing so, I would hope that other people would join in the fun and post something that is interesting to them.

I almost stepped on some Killdeer eggs right in front of my rifle range bench the other day so I flagged it.

And since the “something of interest” topic was going to be something that everyone could participate in, using their phone cameras and I requested that you do not zoom in to preserve the quality of the photo. Now I have a dilemma.

How my going to get a picture of this Killdeer on her nest with out zooming in?

Well, you just have to place the phone on the ground, set it to video, and leave for five or 10 minutes. And then just scroll through the video and screen cap an individual frame.

She does not like my phone sitting there looking at her and this will take her getting used to but I’ll get a picture of her sitting on the nest. Until then I thought this was interesting and wanted to share my technique.

Cool shot.

I can remember being really young and my dad sending me off the tractor to move their nest while doing field work.

Fast forward it 10 years and I’m playing center field. “Slugger” is up to bat and rips a fastball straight ahead. The stage was set and I was in full sprint mode toward the fence. Then bam! I don’t know how but for most of the game a bird had sat on her nest. I cleared the nest and the attack’s ensued. I’m not talking just diving and so on. I’m talking she dove in and tried to flock me to death!

Ball game was put on time out. I got the mama bird finally and ump got the nest.

Cool birds when they act injured and so on. Not cool birds when they go crazy lol.

I’ll have to figure out how to post a pic and get in on this interest thing
If I don't do it, I ain't gettin nun.......So i'm doing it

I enjoy watching storm fronts roll in. The best is when you can watch it come across a large body of water.

Took this a few years ago while turkey hunting. Though it was pretty cool.

Edited to add, not sure why it's sideways.

Lighting was pretty poor in the shade but this made me laugh when i pulled up to our place this past weekend. He's standing there on one leg like a flamingo. Don't think there was anything wrong with his other leg as he just walked down the fence a little ways and hopped down when i unlocked the gate. Guess he was just giving his other leg a break.

Had to flush him right quick when the farm dog came running down the driveway to see me. That wouldn't have ended well for the quail.

Don't know about Mississippi, this was in Alabama and he's just a puppy-training releasee from our pen. Unfortunately that's about the only quail you see in Alabama anymore. No wild birds to speak of unless you intensively manage for them.

Last time I saw quail in the wild was in the late 90’s. Jumped up some on the way to the deer stand. Gave me a good scare.
