Turning pumps on
Turning pumps on
Have you already turned on the water, or if not, when do you plan to do so? I think we will turn ours on by the end of the week and flood one area and wait on other areas.

Pumps are on, but I'm in NW TN
I am interested in purchasing duck calls that were made by Mike McLemore. I am a family member and they have a sentimental value.
Re: Turning pumps on
Seen a few on already in the delta
Looking for 2 duck calls from Dominic Serio of Greenwood (ones for Novacaine)

Re: Turning pumps on
Wish i had a pump to turn on. PO folks gotta wait on the good lord. Got 4 acres of millet with boards in. All it needs is the H2O now. Hopefully we will get to hunt it late December or January.

Re: Turning pumps on
We pumped two pumpable holes this week-end. Felt sorry for the ducks that are already here flying around looking for a wet place to park.
Waiting on R&R (rain & river) for the others.

Re: Turning pumps on
Anybody ever tried to Siphon water out of a river to fill up a hole? Ive got a hole thats literally 200' from the yazoo river but do not have access to a pump big enough to pump the hole. i do however have access to as much 4" and 6" pipe that i need. i have been watching videos of guys draining lakes using this method but wasnt sure if it would pull out of flowing water.

Valves are not a problem either. i have both readily available. Hopefully I can have enough rain water within the next month so that it doesnt come to that. Just hate to see all this millet go to waste.

Re: Turning pumps on
Siphons have a discharge end below the surface of the water you are sucking out of.......
Will you actually have that situation pumping out of the river, up and over the top bank, down to your hole...
A pump can only suck water up around 20 ft-23 ft in Mississippi.........its a vapor pressure thing.

Re: Turning pumps on
Be considerate of your soil base before pumping..
Sj and Donia have a couple of holes like yours real close to the yazoo. Their soil is quite sandy and their hole will not hold water long until the river rises to a certain level. It’s kinda weird But It’s something to consider. Donia and sj can tell you more about the phenomenon..
