Elk Hunting

Postby meddawg » Thu Jun 22, 2017 12:07 pm

Anyone going this year? Initially I didn't draw but my guide got me a landowner tag in the Gila in SW NM. Hunting Sept 15-19. This will be my third hunt. Hope to bring home a nice bull like I did two years ago.

Who are you hunting with in the Gila. I hunted 16c with Beaverhead in 2004 and killed a really nice bull with my bow.

Going 2nd rifle season near Durango, in the foothills of the san juan mts. I hope to do as well as we did last year.. 3 of us went & all 3 killed bulls, even though the temp was in the 70's

Usually hunt the uncompahgre plateau, but my elk partner has work project during archery season this year. First time in 7 years I won't be headed west, and I'm already missing it.

We were just out of Winston as well, so you weren't far from where I was. Good area!

I too hunted with my bow right near Winston. There's a big cattle ranch right there that butts up to the Gila and we got in touch with the guy that leases the hunting rights and he let us buy some landowner tags. I agree, that area was very nice
