Debate in fields

Postby levi127 » Wed Apr 05, 2017 6:57 pm

Been some debating with members and other hunting parties and tired of. Figured I'd ask the smartest and honest people I could find in the internet!

Flooded rice fields.
Better to leave rice stubble standing and and roll lanes?
Leave rice stubble standing and burn remainder of field?
Leave portion of rice standing not cropped and the remainder cropped rice stalks rolled.

Or how do you all prefer it?

Game warden happen to tell a group leaving rice standing and rolled with other part of field cropped was baiting?
May the wind always be at your back and the sun upon your face, and may the wings of destiny carry you aloft to dance with the stars.
Cheers, Georgie.

I like to leave the stubble and roll one lane and then let the ducks and geese do what they want to with it. Generally it will end up completely open

If you roll standing grain that is called manipulation.

If I had my rathers, I'd burn then roll or diamond harrow some landing zones. Disk would be tool of last resort.

And doves will flock to a burned rice field.

We've tried this. All this. Short answer is to burn then roll. Parching the seed with fire definitely helps. Sheet water will hold the most ducks. with or without levee. Burning and leaving open strips sounds awesome but it didn't help. the worst was rice stubble with lanes knocked down with roller/drag. I've seen subtle work fine in Arkansas but in Leflore Co you better knock it down.
