Okay so I have just recently moved to Starkville, I am attending Mississippi State. I am looking for some advice as to where some good duck hunting is. I'm not asking for your honey holes just some general discussion on where I can start scouting. I recently acquired a lab to hunt with and want to put him on some good hunts next year, because to me seeing him retrieve is equally satisfying as knocking em down. Thanks in advance guys.

Go west about 100 miles. Duck hunting in your part of the world is decent at best

I have not heard any good things about the wma's around here, if I go wma it's Howard Miller or Muscadine and we are lucky to get a one man limit most days. I have been told of a few public land spots in this area I just don't know how to start scouting.

Probably not gonna get a lot of discussion on the topic due to this
Must Read Before Posting: Public Land Info Policy - 12/6/11 - DuckSouth.com

Maybe somebody will pm you some helpful info though.

If I had an inkling of where a duck was landing around Starkville, MS, I wouldn't tell but one guy and we'd be after them the next day.

Anyways, it's March 10. It'll be a little while before it's time to start internet scouting, which is exactly what you're doing. "Nudge, honey hole, general area, point in right direction", it's all the same. Settle down, post a little smack talk on the Ole Miss NOA thread, and sit tight for a while.

Start spending hours staring at google earth. It's what I do in the offseason.

Let us not pussyfoot around, you are Internet scouting. The bad kind of Internet scouting. The most offensive thing about an "innocent little ole me" Internet scouter is not so much the fact that you are being lazy; it's the fact that you're playing everyone for a buncha fools.

Here's how you go about the good way of Internet scouting, even a new area you don't know, cuz ain't nobody givin you a nudge, a hunch, a birdy-in-yer-ear, NOTHIN.

Google "public land hunting" for your zip code.

Ya oughtta get some names of some areas from that.

And go from there (Initiative).

See I am okay with that. I have my honey holes back home and not a soul but me knows about them. But in my original post I made sure to say I don't want your honey holes I just want to know general areas that you are allowed to hunt. The internet hasn't help with much information on public land hunting.
