Chipmunk Eradication

Postby ScottBrown » Tue Mar 07, 2017 8:22 am

I have a major problem, Chipmunks. Go ahead and laugh if you want but this is serious. They came out of nowhere and now my yard is overrun. They have tunneled all under my yard and it is going from the top of the hill, to the bottom of the hill.

There is no telling how much money these little no good, sorry, digging rodents are going to cost me in dirt work.

What is the best way to kill all of them?

I had the same problem. They are smart little devils. I finally found the combination to catching them. Go to Home Depot and buy the small 2 door Havahart trap. While in line to check out buy a pack of salted all ready shelled peanuts. Go home, place peanuts on the ground in high traffic area, and place the trap on top of the peanuts. I caught 8 in about 2 weeks.

Them that don't know him won't like him, and them that do sometimes won't know how to take him.

By a golden retriever, problem solved. Mines has one waiting at the door step every few days. I believe she is just bragging

Those videos show how serious people get about killing these things, they are the spawn..

I have a 5 step plan as of now.

1. Smoke bombs that you put in the tunnels to kill them
2. Rat and mouse traps
3. Drowning bucket baited with sunflower seeds.
4. Rat poison
5. pellet gun

I hope through all of these methods I can decimate, obliterate, destroy the population.

Brandon, Thanks for the text, I will get the trap from you tomorrow, but I have some other methods in the works too.

I have had a couple people tell me this sounds like Caddy Shack and I agree, Now I understand where he was coming from. This is serious..

Nice article Nyssa. Best part was:

"Check traps frequently to remove captured chipmunks and release any nontarget animals caught in them. Avoid direct contact with trapped chipmunks. Transport and release livetrapped chipmunks several miles from the point of capture (in areas where they will not bother someone else), or euthanize by placing in a carbon dioxide chamber."

So let them go or Gas them in your handy carbon dioxide chamber..Nice
