Underground or GPS fence collars

Postby SB » Fri Feb 24, 2017 9:27 pm

Anyone have any experience with underground or GPS containment collars? My first thought was to have something to keep a dog in a 2 acre lot (I was thinking underground fence) . I saw something about a GPS containment collar. After searching a little bit, GPS sound possible and interesting. Might could allow me to cover more acres. Anyone have any experience with either type containment system? Any recommendations?

Which one do you use? How big of an area will cover? Can you create irregular boundaries for it? Thanks

I have an underground system. I have had it for about 5 years. When it is working it is awesome I'm covering between 4 and 5 acres. The problem with the system is when it breaks it is a problem to find the break. If I had to update I would look into the GPS system. But the underground fence has kept my 3 labs out of highway 61 for years.

SB, did you decide on a decide on a system. My dogs have been venturing way outside the neighborhood the last few days so I am fixing to invest in something. I have 2.5 acres.

Peewee - I haven't done anything. I was gaining ideas for when we build a house and get a dog. No dog right now.

I highly recommend if you go underground to upgrade to 14 ga. wire.

I would also like to know about the GPS system as I would like to have it cover about 8 acres.
