need suggestions for what to plant for curb appeal

Postby gps4 » Thu Feb 16, 2017 10:03 am

we are trying to sell our house and need to update our shubbery and ornamental plants. we have an brick built in planter box shown on the left in this photo....

it had white azaleas in it until this fall when my spousal unit cut them off at the ground and asked me to pull them out to make room for new flowering plants. so, i finally got that done yesterday....

anyway, i'd like to plant something that will grow bushy and about 2-3 feet tall that will bloom in the spring and summer with bold vibrant colored flowers to compliment the red door, red shutters, and gray brick and trim. perhaps even plant something in front of them that will spill over and cascade down the front of the box and explode with color.

do we have any landscapers or home gardeners that can make some suggestions on the name/species of some plantsi should consider?

thanks in advance.

I prefer stuff that doesn't require a lot of attention. I planted Knockout roses around our mailbox and side of the house to take the place of some other stuff that was there and they have done great. Little to no maintenance and bloom all Summer and into late Fall.

Indian Hawthorns. And they are very easy to take care of. Go ahead and buy the bigger ones and stick them in. I think lots of color is going to clash with that brick.

I'm thinking about pulling the tall shrubs from under the windows and replacing them with some decent size Indian hawthorns. perhaps something shorter under the big windows, and then creeping juniper in front of the shrubs.

I know you just pulled out white azaleas but you could put in some dwarf red ones to match the door. The Indian Hawthorne or large gardenias would be good for replacing the other shrubs.

Or you could really jazz it up with some sort of Indica or Sativa strains to make the curb appeal pop. Most people would really care after that point. Plus it doubles as a seasoning and it great to cook with.
