Havoc 1653 dbst 50 Merc big tiller

Postby nufther » Thu Dec 29, 2016 10:14 am

It's been awhile. Not sure this is even in the right place. Any help would be appreciated on a couple of concerns and ideas. I just bought a new Havoc and the place I bought it is closed for a couple of weeks. It's spraying water into the back of the boat while running wide open coming up the transom. It's the dbst model with the raised transom. Also, I'm wanting a prop upgrade and a break away plate - or that's what I'm hearing that I need. I've been told the cnc with a 14 pitch vengeance will have me right. Thanks for any help!

Most likely need to raise your motor. Are you on the Facebooks? Is so, high performance tillers is the page to ask this question. Where did you buy it from by chance?

Emmett's Marine in Brookhaven. Very good experience and stand up people there. Just didn't want to bother him while they're off for the holidays. I'm not on facebook right now but could reactivate to see what info I can find. Thanks for the help.

Emmett will fix your issue. Your outboard is probably too low and you need a jack plate. I dealt with the same issue and that was the only fix.

Yeah Emmett is great at it! I know he eats, sleeps and breathes boats. I was just looking for something a little sooner if I could get it done. Thanks for the help!

If you don't have a breakaway plate, I highly recommend getting one. When you mount it you will be able to get your motor a little higher. Veng and Yam black stainless props run really good with that combo boat and motor.

Depends on what's been done to motor and what you're trying to accomplish. 14p for holeshot and carrying a load and possibly a 16p if you're just looking for top speed. Really have to know rpms your turning to make a 100% accurate call on prop pitch.

It's a stock motor / no mods. How would I get the needed info? Thanks again

Hooking up a tiny tach or other style tachometer will give you the rpms. Once you get your number, you'll be able to make an educated decision on what pitch to run...
