Goal Setting

Postby jacksbuddy » Tue Dec 13, 2016 3:31 pm

I am not looking for the usual "New Year's Resolution" type stuff. I need to update mine, and before I start working on them, I am genuinely curious as to how others go about doing the same thing. So:

Who on here sets goals for themselves each year? And how do you go about them?

I set a goal a few years back to write in a journal every day for a few minutes. I still haven't made a it a week writing every day, but as I get older, it makes it a lot easier to recall and reminisce on good hunts/fishing trips/climbs.

I think for goal setting, the key is to take it day by day, step by step, as opposed to month by month or week by week.

Write them down.
Set deadlines/milestones.
Share with someone who will hold you accountable.

**Don't set too many or you will quit, set 1 per qtr and maybe one annual goal.

This past year my annual goal was complete MBA. (Done)
Q1- half marathon (Done)
Q4- book first elk hunt for 2017 (Done)

I set monthly workout goals as well, subscribe to Mens Fitness online which sends new workout plans bi-monthly.

Anyway, this works for me, but every person needs their own method.

Best of Luck my friend.

I'm a nerd when it comes to goals and such. But it is because I have seen how impactful they are if you take them serious. First, if you are talking business goals, read the 12 Week Year. Second, read Living Forward. Both are short and great. Next, find an accountability partner. Keeping them to yourself is the easiest way to never achieve them.

I'm not talking about business goals. I am talking more about personal goals for your life. I'm a big nerd about this stuff too. I have actually written down some things that I want to accomplish in my life, and as I mark them off the list, it frees up time to pursue other items on the list. And now that a few of the big ones are completed, I need to develop some more goals.

Of course, when you develop the goals, you then have to plan out how to attain those goals, and write out the process. And this is the part that takes the work - - - the planning and follow-up execution. :?

Interesting you bring this up. I'm in a program at work where this year I'll have to develop short term and long term goals. They are to be focused on business and family/personal.
