Out of state hunters

Postby 870 express » Mon Dec 12, 2016 1:06 pm

Have not posted in a while, but noticed something this past weekend while traveling home from camp in Tallahatchie county. Basically every other truck had Alabama or Georgia tags. Having hunted the same area for the last 15 or so yrs this seems to be only getting more the norm. I'm not saying they should not be allowed to hunt but it sure does make it hard for a working man to keep up with lease prices with people coming from Georgia leasing any and all holes a farmer will flooded.

yep, especially when a new nomadic crew comes in every year, willing to pay a lil more than the last crew for the same rowed up mud fields.

Well I rode through a certain NWR outside of Yazoo City the other day and went down the levee and saw a total of 12 vehicles. I was explaining to my buddy riding with me, that when we pass these trucks I will bet most if not all of them are from the coast. Well out of the 12 trucks we saw a couple (2) had specialty plates, but all the rest had either.
Harrison, Hancock, George, Pearl River, or Stone county plates.

Now I had already made my assumption and was willing to bet on that...and I was correct. It is like that every single year. Doesn't matter to me because I don't hunt there anymore (partly because of that) but it doesn't change the fact.

I see your point about the locals but coming across a few county lines is not all that uncommon.
Crossing two states then to the west side of Ms is getting a little far fetched. I'm not bashing them in anyway and have not lost my lease to any of them so I'm not bitter. Guess it just rang a bell yesterday as I left the county. The population count should be down somewhat today in Tally!

That's a shame....all the trucks shoulda had Delta Waterfowl or DU tags if they were true to the sport/tradition!

Agreed.... touché`

Also, at this particular place, one has to put in for a "draw" and be drawn to hunt, with a gun during a certain timeframe. Maybe they (Coast folks) are the only ones putting in for them. Hell I know I didn't put in for any of them so I can't say anything about not getting drawn. It was just an observation that I have come to expect at this place each year.

You know, when I first started hunting in the delta in the early 1990's, all the out of state tags were from South Carolina and Tenn. I always wondered why the heck anyone would drive from SC to hunt at "your local WMA." Then, over the years, the TN and SC tags slowly changed to AL and GA. Dunno what is up with that.....

That's because the TN and SC hands are over in Arkansas now. The GA & AL crew don't have a vehicle that'll make it that far.
Them ducks is wary. We now resume our regularly scheduled forum melee in progress.
