website is not active anymore and the MS State calling contest is scheduled for 10/15 in Raymond.

i haven't heard anything, yet, and we have cooked in the gumbo comp 3 out of the last 4 years (cancelled last year due to storms). they generally like to have it on the weekend closest to halloween. will report back if i hear anything.

just got an email from them:

Sorry but we are not holding the festival this year. We will see if we have any more interest next year. the calling contest will be held in jackson

guess participation has waned to the point that it isn't worth the effort, anymore. we weren't able to cook last year and know that the number of gumbo comp teams has been below break-even for a couple/few of years (and cancelled the event last year with heavy storms).

I hate we're not going to be able to cook this year. Our little nook was always a party by itself.
