I know this subject has been brought up but I cannot find the post. that said I am looking to purchase a policy for my camp this year and want to hear what other have done. below is a general summary of our program.

We have 6 members
have two main tracts, each approx. 1,000 acres
No members are owners in the land
We do not need to insure any buildings or structures.

questions

1. who needs to be listed on the policy
2. do you only get it for the duration of hunting season
3. how are costs determined ie acreage, type of hunting, number of members etc.

In short I am trying to protect our land owner and all members of the club from getting in a situation where someone is injured and files suit.

thanks guys

tip

I've used outdoor underwriters in the past and have had good luck with them. Never had to use the policy but was easy to sign up and keep going.

Pretty sure QDMA is written by Outdoor UnderWriters. Never had a claim, but easy to sign up and renew.

NWTF also offers a policy, easy to sign up and was less than $250 for 1000 acres a couple years ago. Policy last for 12 months, I believe it is July 1 - July 1.

As an insurance agent who gets this question 50-11 times a year, the QDMA program is the best for the money. Its usually all underwritten in some variation or another buy the same issuing company, just brokered through this big underwriting groups. My advice is to list every member personally as an additional insured on the policy. I don't believe QDMA charges for this and other can charge per each additional insured. I can write directly through the same company and it will cost you more. QDMA is the way to go.

Mississippi Forestry Association provides insurance as well through Davis & Garvin. Great group to be a part of, and supporting a group working everyday here in MS for landowners and the timber industry.
