Southern Slang

Postby Florida Boy » Mon Aug 15, 2016 5:24 pm

We are all blessed beyond imagination the Lord saw fit to create us as Southerner's we have one of the most unique cultures in the history of this country. We have a dialect and language all our own, something that should be chronicled and preserved. I would like to ask ya'll to share your favorite saying and wisdom of your regions so all can enjoy. I'm going to start this off with a phrase used by a gentleman i worked with years ago referring to a project that turned out really well. " That is jam up and jelly tight " We have all heard something that maybe made you scratch your head at first ,then it brought a smile to your face. Let's not let these gems disappear.

Said by my Dad, NOT in mixed company, during a particularly heavy rain.

"It is raining like a tall cow pizzin' on a flat river rock!"

If we was playing checkers, it'd be your move.
That's as f'ed up a box of brim hooks.
I show you how the cow eats the cabbage.
That's as f'ed up as a football bat.
If she had as many sticking out of her as she's had stuck in her, she'd look like a porcupine.
That's as f'ed up as a knee grows checkbook.
If you want to play hardball, batter up mfer.
Where'd who go?

If a frog had pockets he'd carry a pistol and shoot snakes.

- frog choker
- turtle floater

you're either a floater or a sinker...cream rises to the top and turds sink to the bottom
Experience is a freakin' awesome teacher...

My grandpa- boy, you are so lazy and dumb you think 'manual labor' is the name of a Mexican evangelist.

My uncle (who helped pay for my college education)- that is only a small step if you are a 'high stepper'.

Another bit of wisdom bestowed on me from a very wise older gentleman. Its ok to borrow money, but remember you can never borrow yourself out of debt.
