I was just glad to know that the only deer along Long Lake out that way is now out of the water and doesn't have to drown, although his long swim for for naught. But at least the only deer to come out of those woods to the harbor road is not a danger anymore, I mean I was scared to death! I call absolute BS.

They beter set up firing lines all along highway 61 and highway 1 to "dispatch" unruley animals that are such a danger.

They couldn't tranqulize the deer so they had to shoot it?? In forestry school we learned the "Do Nothing" approach is always a valid option!

think about all the summer tags that farmers get to shoot deer because they eat there soy beans. a farmer local to my area has a couple 100 acres of beans - his land backs up to my deer camp.

this year he got 50 deer tags to shoot and let them lay because they are eating his beans.


so all the hard work, effort, and money we spent on our property goes down the drain for deer management.


our state and deer management are not even on the same page.

This deer was destroyed because of what it might do. The deer tags your farmer friend has is for what deer will do. Big difference.

You can be dam sure that wasn't the only deer that swam that part of the river. It must look like a war zone down there with all those vagrant deer that cant seem to get out of their own way. What a crock! If the Dept is so worried about deer collisions with high water just why in the hell don't they let the hunters take care of the displaced deer herd? I mean they MIGHT in leaving their home areas go to a human populated area.

Why not just say the officer used one of the tools at his disposal and it was one of the decisions he could have made. But this "we had to kill this animal for the betterment of society" is an insult to everyone that reads it. IMO its just another case of the thin blue line covering for a poor decision.
For the record... I know why the seasons are closed during high water I have seen the reasons with my own eyes. But that deer was just as important as the ones killed illegally by hunters, tickets are being written daily for the same offense.
