decoy bag for texas rig

Postby Dr. B » Wed Dec 16, 2015 4:48 pm

Has anybody got a decent solution to hauling texas rig (about 3 doz) decoys? I don't want to spend 100 bucks on special bag at Mack's and I've tried to rig my own but it ain't working. I spend 20 damn minutes untangling the mess before I can set them out. If it wasn't so nice to pick them up and throw them out, it makes me want to go back to the string and flat weights. :x

You can put 3 dozen standards in an Avery extra large standup bag. Take 12 decoys and tie 2 overhand knots- one close to decoys and other close to carabiner. Full bag but works pretty good.

I just bought a Rig em Right Gunslinger bag from Macks. Discounted to $50 free shipping. That's the top end of what I'm willing to pay, but it holds 2 dozen magnums without closing at the top. 1 1/2 and it would close I suspect. I'm mainly needing it to ride on the 4 wheeler and drag in a sled, so closing at the top is not an issue for me.

I use the drake stand up bag and it works good. Same as said before though tie 2 knots and drop in a dozen, repeat for the next dozen.

And FWIW, even though I think it's pretty high to pay $50 for any decoy bag, the Gunslinger does feel very well made and tough. I'm pleased so far.

I've got 1 gunslinger bag and 2 doc's hunt n stuff bags. I prefer the doc's but they could stand to be just a tad wider. Couldn't tell you the last time I checked their website and they actually had bags in stock though.

I've got the Rig Em Right DP3 decoy bag. I've got probably close to 3 dozen decoys in it with a little room to spare, and it rides perfect on the back of a four wheeler.

any stand up bag, and as said tie an overhand knot as close to decoys and a second as close to carbineer clip.

I put thick zip ties around the bag straps and use cheap biners for each 6 decoys.....really helps. BTW, Cabelas and Rogers both have bags on sale.

We really like these for texas rigs.. You can slip a dozen dakotas in at a time without going from side to side throwing the stragglers in. It holds atleast 2 dozen of them. We have had 1 of them for 3 years and still holding up strong. Just bought 2 more this year for the rest of our dakotas.
