Is it "over built"? From the ones I've looked at, many to most do not have the "studs" so to speak.

I have not priced it all yet. Design may change once it's priced.

I would make the windows as small as you possibly can to limit the ability to see movement on the inside. I made my windows 8 inches wide and wishing I had made them more like 6 inches. I also paint the inside black or dark color to conceal movement on the inside.. I would also consider putting down some carpet or something on the floor to make it quieter when you move.. And a 4x6 main frame I wouldn't put studs on the 4 foot sides and maybe just 1 or 2 in the 6 ft side to limit weight, those things get heavy quick. You can also buy 2x3 studs instead of 2x4 which will help cut back on overall weight..

If it is going to be where it gets that amount of water, I would consider building a treehouse with a disposable ladder up to it or maybe some sort of debris break in front of it that will work like a cattle catcher on the front of a train. Debris in 5 feet of water will push a box stand over. At a minimum, I would go with round 6inchers from Fallon lumber for the corner posts.

If this will be built in place and on a spot you will hunt for years you are not "OVER BUILDING" it. I have some very similar stands that I built over 10 years ago and have not had to do one thing to them. The only difference is my access is through the floor with a closable trap door. I build houses so I had lots of scrap material for the box itself. I used OSB for floors and walls. I then covered the walls and roof with brown galvalume. The OSB is not needed on the walls if you use metal. My stand floors are 12' high (16' 6x6, 4' in ground 12' exposed) and the OSB sides helped sturdy it up. All exposed material should be treated. If your water is slow to rise and fall 4x4's at only 6' high should be fine. If the water can rise and fall abruptly, I agree with Randy that a larger post may be needed. I would stick with a 6x6 instead of round. It just makes the "build" a little easier to put together. As I stated before if you intend to hunt this spot for a long time, build it right and build it to last. It will not cost that much more and will be around for years and will be safe.

One thing I did not do at first and went back and added were sliding windows. Good luck

We find that 9 inch window openings are best

If your going to build it on site, you will be fine. If you are going to build it and have to move it to your spot, it is going to be extemely heavy. Ive built several 4x6 shooting houses. I rip the 2x4's and only put full 2x4's where the plywood, osb or masonite meet. Usually make the windows 9x20. 2 in front and 1 on each side. Carpet on floor and a couple of old office chairs and your set

Just from my experience. But I like to build them 4x8 instead of 4x6. It's less cutting and waist involved and you have more room for the same amount of money.

Thanks for the input guys. I am researching the poles based on the suggestions. It will be flooded in this bottom and I believe at times it can be quick. I will make some adjustments in the framing as well.
