Chris Stapleton

Postby msudawg8087 » Thu Nov 05, 2015 9:01 am

Had never heard of him before last night for some reason but wow. He's written a ton of songs for others and was in another group but apparently released his own album back in May. His songs Tennessee Whiskey and Traveller are pretty good.

His producer is the same guy that produces for Jason Isbell and Sturgill Simpson. That's pretty good company.

I've had the album since it came out. The whole album is worth a listen.

Been listening to him for a while now. He was great with the Steeldrivers if you like bluegrass, but is far better solo, I think. Without a doubt the best in the business in my opinion.

My favorite is "Might as well get Stoned."

He has played a several times in MS over the last several years.

Had not heard about him before last night.. While I like some of the new country, I tend to listen to older country music more than anything.. I sort of had a flash back to my childhood last night.. Growing up most of the stuff on the radio when I was a kid was Conway, Ronnie Millsap, Charlie Pride, etc.. And while I really liked those artists, and still do, I distinctly remember when my dad popped in a new cassette called "Red Headed Stranger" and opened my eyes to the outlaw country movement.. Seems sort of like what I saw last night.. The new "non traditional" country fans got a little taste of some outlaw/bluesy country..

And by the way.. I think Kenny Chesney got robbed more than a few times last night.. I think he was the only singer nominated that wasn't born in the 90's

Most unique voice in Nashville. He used to sing lead for the Steeldrivers; check out Drunking Dark Whisky and also To Be With You Again off Steeldrivers first record

We had him in Greenville first weekend of October at the Mighty Mississippi River Music Fest. Incredible live show, hands down best act all weekend. Steve Azar called it then saying he was about to be the next artist to make it big in country music.

So I'm never shocked to hear good music that isn't played by radio. Radio seldom plays music I like. I am surprised, though, that he has gotten so much mainstream acclaim and I've never heard of him. What gives? How does he win these awards and country radio not play his stuff? Or how does radio not play his stuff if he is so popular?
