Really just trying to strike conversation but also curious. Let's say you have 2 Bean or corn fields exactly the same other than one gets flooded every winter and one doesn't. Is there any research or personal experience showing that the flooded field is impacted either positively or negatively just by having water sitting on it for an extended amount of time? Does the water hold in key nutrients or does it absorb them?

The farmer we lease from says that the water compacts the soil, which is a problem for him for some reason. If I had to guess, it would be aeration.

Flood also leaches nitrogen and can cause other nutrient imbalances.
