Well I'm also in Idaho for the next few months, I ended up getting assigned here last minute so I didn't have time for the controlled hunt lottery, so I'll have to wait in agony until October 10th. So much of the hunting here is done by vehicle and road whether that be by truck or atv most people just drive and glass all day. I wanted to do something different and get away from the crowd.

I found a few foot traffic only trails and have been walking those 2-3 miles back from the access point then 1-2 miles off of the main trail just trying to get away from traffic. I've been out scouting every day that I've had off and wanted to share a few pictures from yesterday's scouting trip. They're all taken from my phone and really don't do the countryside justice.

PS, Idaho is no country for fat men. These hills have kicked my butt, I put in 8 miles yesterday.

great pics!

i'm convinced that multi-cam is one of the best patterns for that part of the world and that photo really illustrates it. not sure it's not a great pattern for around here, either.

keep the pics coming, gator

If you are going to be there a while invest in a decent camera you won't regret it.

Thanks guys, I have a canon T3i just left it at the house on this trip.
Multicam is great in all areas I've hunted. Kryptek also looks great up here, I had on a Kryptek shirt but took it off to cool down some during the hike. My next purchase will be some decent binos or a spotting scope. It's a lot different from the swamp bottoms I grew up hunting but I'm loving it so far.

Yup a spotter would be a good thing to have in southern Idaho. My purchase for next year.

I Elk hunted Pioneer Unit last year near Makay Idaho. lots of elk, sheep, and goats - we only saw a few mule deer. if you need some coordinates for some elk in that region - let me know - we saw a ton of elk last year - its also over the counter for archery - but very limited draw for rifle.
