2015 mule deer hunt

Postby adame » Thu Sep 17, 2015 4:01 pm

So I drew a "trophy tag" for a unit here in Idaho. I've scouted nearly half a dozen times since August. I watched this bull elk and his ladies for around 1.5 days. and the end result was a deer that I had put a roughly .75-1 mile stalk on I thought that he was a 4x4 because his left side opposite tine made it look like another fork. I can't get over the beauty of the west. In all I saw 40 deer, 15-20 elk, one black bear sow with a cinnamon cub, and I heard some wolves yesterday morning.

Congrats man, glad to see a fellow Mississippian doing good here. I'm headed up to the Featherville area tomorrow to camp and scout until tuesday evening.

Quail season opens today, plenty of california quail in the area.
Duck opens October 17th, we'll be on the Snake River pretty much every morning after then. 7 mallards and 10 specklebellies per person per day.

One of my favorite hunting quotes is: "A trophy is measured directly by the personal investment involved in its acquisition".

Any shmuck (especially one with a some money) can hire a guide to plop them down and shoot a nice deer. But would a guy who paid someone to do all the front end hard work value a 200" Mule deer more than you value yours? Unequivocally no! To put in a bunch of hard work scouting, and then making a nice stalk to kill a nice buck like that is what makes it a trophy. Congrats!

So jealous. The hunting would be great but I just want a chance to see that country. I may not come back if I ever get out there. Thanks for sharing and congrats.
There will be a day....
