New shotgun

Postby bwilli3 » Thu Aug 27, 2015 8:46 am

I wanted to get some opionions on a new shotgun for my dad. He has hunted with the same 12 guage, model 1100 remington for as long as I can remember. Out of the blue last week, he said he wanted one of those new nice shotguns. So with that said, what are some of the best out there? I'm know he will want 12 guage automatic.

I continue to think the SX3 is about the best bang for the buck.

On the same token as the SX3, I have a Browning Maxus and love it. If youre down here, call me and you can take it back with you one weekend and let him shoot it. I may be up your way in a week or two.

I know there are good guns out there that are gas powered, I just didn't have one of them. Seems like the reliability of them is based on the mood of the fella doing the QA inspection that day at the factory.

I've ended up with a Benelli M2, and I'm not going back. At least not for a duck gun.

That being said, I'd probably go with a Maxus or SX3 in 3" chamber if I were to get another gas auto.

Pretty hard to beat the new A5 as well. Or Franchi Intensity for another reliable, inertia-driven gun.

I've heard good things about the sx3. I've had two brownings and neither could stand up to my use. I believe afternoons and nights after the hunt are for camp fires and whiskey, not cleaning guns.

That being said I love my SBE. I have never had a malfunction and I never clean it during the season.

I'm in the market for a m2 20gauge now. I'm done with the big guns after I've seen what the little 20's can do.

a-5 new or old, brand new can be had for about the same price, 3 inch gun that is. The new auto 5 would be my purchase if I needed one but I dont, I dont clean mine at night either its a 67 humpback. A like new original can be bought for prob less than a new Auto 5. But when you pull the trigger on the original 3 times, it fires, 3 times.

If he is middle aged or better, he would probably appreciate the Maxus. I haven't had the Monday blue shoulder in three years. One of these days, you youngsters will understand the importance of a sweet light kicking shotgun that still goes bang-bang-bang.
