Why Not a September Archery season

Postby jdbuckshot » Wed Aug 19, 2015 10:19 am

several other states allow hunting early enough with archery equipment to all the harvest of a velvet buck.

Why not open archery seasons "bucks only" sept. 15th this would allow archery hunters the chance at a easier to pattern velvet whitetail.

it would also allow outfitter an additional two weeks to guide hunts.

I just know every year its easy to find mature whitetails on there feet in the day light up until about sept 28th. unless your Quinn.........

Very good point and there's no reason we should not. I've spoken to a few people who know and they said if they can make money off of it they would do it.

Me and a buddy were just talking about this. Georgia opens sept 15th, there's no reason we shouldn't be either for traditional archery.

I honestly believe if there was enough support it could be done without much resistance.

Deer season opened August 15 in parts of South Carolina. Archery or gun.

I guess the heat, snakes and mosquitoes aren't bad enough for them in October.

I think fawns in the hills of MS are still too immature for this. The Delta region may be a different story, but I get some VERY small fawns on camera that time of year, and many of their mothers could get taken before they are ready to wean. By the first of October, I seldom see spotted fawns.

Well if they can open "primative weapon" for "does only", surely they can open an archery bucks only season. I mean if its all in the name we're too populated as they say....

It just doesn't get to hot for me to bow hunt.

I know a lot of "hunters" complain about it being to hot, to many skeeters, to many snakes.

early season is our best chance to kill a mature white tail - there I just to much pressure before the rut with our long season.

plus dog season is right in the middle of the rut.
