Proposed turkey tagging system

There is currently a proposal on the table to install a turkey tagging system in the State of Mississippi that is coming up for vote this month. Turkey numbers are declining in the state so the NWTF and MDWF&P are in support of the data that may be gained from getting harvest results through a tagging system. There are possibilities that the tags could be free to obtain or that you must pay a small fee that would be earmarked to go towards turkey conservation. There is currently a pole not the Clarion Ledger to get the opinion of the public. So far, over 50% are in favor of the tagging system with a small fee.

I feel as most turkey hunters would be ethical enough to follow the guidelines that could be set in place which would help them get the data they need, but also understand that there are still plenty of unethical hunters that would follow the guidelines.

I am interested to hear what the turkey hunters on here have to say.

Knowing people who kill grossly over the limit of birds I support tags.

A tag is not going to stop anyone from killing over the limit. An outlaw is an outlaw, it is in there blood.

I hope they do it as well. i outgrew killing too many MANY years ago, and i hate hearing every year about so-and-so killed 10 gobblers.... But, like Scott said, that wont stop an outlaw... He wont tag that 3rd bird and will have that last tag in his wallet all season.

Having to keep up with the tags and report kills is a minor nuisance and I would prefer not to have yet another fee to pay, but can live with it. I don't need a tagging system to make me do the right thing, so personally, it's fine with me if the program can actually be of some benefit to the wild turkey.

I am all for it. It will stop some free m going over the limit but some will continue to kill as many as possible.
