St. Augustine grass can be sensitive to MSMA and 2-4D. Halosulfuron (labeled as Permit, Halomax, or SedgeHammer) will control nutsedges very well. Atrazine is an excellent early season preemergance herbicide used in St. Augustine. Metsulfuron (Ally, Cimarron) will control most broadleaf weeds. Add a crop oil concentrate or non ionic surfactant at around 1% volume/volume for maximum efficacy. Know your weed spectrum to determine your application and follow the label accordingly.
