Really good reads. I love how the author is able to paint a picture of the scenes and not overlook details which today would seem unimportant. I'm not saying all outdoor writers today are ungifted, but you just don't see articles like this anymore much. The way they write and words they use are just different. Seems like they are more educated than us today on proper writing, which I would fail miserably at since I struggled with writing all through school. Also, it seems often that common men, who were educated of course, did much of the writing in those days. Not so much as a job but as a contribution to a magazine.

Apparently there was global warming back in 1889.

And in 1889, there was not an abundant supply of game ---- very few ducks, deer, turkey, etc. I guess the good ol days weren't really that good.? :lol:
