I bought about 20 years of them (8/1873 to 12/1895) on DVD for some research I was doing on some old calls. This was just a bonus. I'll share more MS stuff as I find more.

These articles are fantastic. They are longer and more detailed than the type of mindless dribble we see today. And they don't focus on pushing products or commercial lodges.

Great glimpse into what our neighborhood was like 125 years ago. I grew up hunting all along the Little Sunflower and Coon bayou, so reading this make me feel like I knew exactly where they were. Thanks for sharing!

couple more 1889 / 1890 nuggets about Mississippi.

1889 fishing seasons

Winter of 1889 details (written Jan 1890)

Pretty strong ole dude here. Wingman, also speaks to your 1/2 mile wide cain break theory.

No wonder there are no quail.

1889 / 1890 seasons

Apparently not a new stereotype.

I love reading these stories, but it reminds me why we have game laws now. It was every man govern himself back then. I guess when you CAN shoot 300 quail in a week, or catch hundreds of frogs in a night, or shoot hen turkeys all year long, you don't figure the supply will ever run out. Then one day it does and it takes a long time, if ever, to get it back like it once was.
