I bought a Maxx Ice (75 pound model) last year from Lowes....I put it in my lake house, where we use a lot of ice for icing down fish, kid's drinks, etc....I've never seen an ice machine make ice so fast.
They must be good machines because I see them in the Cabelas catalogs, now.

I am not any help on locating a dealer, but buy one that you can get service on local and parts are easy to come by.
We have 2 at our fire dept, a 1000 lb per day model and a 300 lb per day Hoshizaki. One of the two is ALWAYS broken. I think today was the first time in a year both of the were working at the same time. Apparently it is kind of an inherent issue of the machine. I don't know.
Just be sure parts and service is easy to come by local.

Wonder why in refrigerator / freezer icemakers seem to be bulletproof and standalone icemakers seem to always have problems ?

The rule of thumb I have heard for a while on stand alone ice makers is always buy new, keep for about two years sell for about 1K and buy another new one. They are that prone to problems....

There are only two brands that you need to consider.

Ice o Matic or manitowoc.

They are all prone to problems but these two are far and away the best brands. Buy the extended warranty........
