The therory is that the panty hose will hold all the feathers in place. There is really no need in that. if you seen what the bird looked like an hour before assembly, you'd understand why.
The problem with it is that it lets air in and speeds up freezer burn x50-11
When saving a bird for taxidermy, think air tight. Thats way more important than having all the feathers laying the same way!
What would you guys do?

To add to what H2O Fowl just said about pantyhose, it will actually shred the feathers instead of hold them in place too if there's any movement of the bird inside the panty hose. And to what GH22 said, saran wrap is better than panty hose, but still not the best for long term storage. A bird in an ice bag or ziplock with the air pulled out will last longer than you'd expect, especially in a freezer that isn't a frost free model. That being said, don't wait forever to take them to your taxidermist.
Sorry for the thread hijack. Hope the OP gets the issue resolved.

+1 on money back, birds back. Even if it's part time, he has a responsibility to deliver in a reasonable timeframe.
Side question, anyone use or recommend vacuum sealing a bird headed for the taxidermist?

Going through the same thing with same guy. Killed a mallard gadwall cross two years ago and cannot get up with him. Probably fixing to go lawyer route myself.

I really hate to hear it and hope it's fixed in some way shape or form!
As far as wrapped birds go, a good rule to follow is get them to your taxidermist as soon as possible. That way the worry is out of your hands. I've got a beautiful Mallard/Pintail hybrid in the freezer now that someone left un wrapped for 2 years. we'll see.
