Shooting bench/table

Postby meddawg » Wed Jan 28, 2015 1:06 pm

I am going to make a shooting bench or table for sighting in rifles to leave at the camp. I'm sick of scraping together saw horses with pieces of wood to rest on. Looking to build one out of lumbar. Anyone with any suggestions on design who has built one? Thanks in advance.

Going to get made fun of for this, but it was honestly a google image search that landed me here.

I'll take some pics of our this weekend. Aside from the random cow knocking it over every year or two, it hasn't budged nor been hurt. It's been there at least 6 years now.
Where'd who go?

Make sure you built it so you can get the entire rifle infront of your shoulder. Many benches aren't made for large caliber rifles. They make you put the rifle off to the side and you end up along side and not directly behind. This makes it difficult to control the recoil and everything goes to sheet.

Also don't build the seat too low. Definitely err to high.

You may get similar advice from the Pintrest club but I can tell you from first hand experience these two things are a must.

Here's mine. Found plans on the internet (not pintrest!). I think I had around $80 in lumber. Could have been built cheaper, not sure why I framed it out of 2x6, but its definitely not going anywhere anytime soon.

If you think there's a chance anyone will be shooting AR's off of bags on it consider cutting slots in it for magazines to slip into so you're not trying to rest the gun on bags and the bottom of the mag.
