I gots a querstion about jumper cables.........

Postby Nuker » Fri Jan 09, 2015 4:42 pm

Where would I start to look for some jumper cables like one would use to jump off heavy equipment? Like doziers and big tractors.

Not that I have heavy equipment, Im just tired of fooling around with the cheapos from Walley.

Would it be better to make them out of welding leads/clamps?

Just google Heavy Duty jumper cables. Be prepared to spend $100 or more. Grainger sells them for sure. Napa but you will probably over pay.

Lowes sells a set of 2 ga 16ft. that are heaver than most, and they are only $30 if they still carry them. I think most you find at the box stores are 4 ga and 6 ga.

Make your own. Get the clamps with rust proof jaws and get longer leads than you think you need.

I had a set made of welding cable and they held up to farm use for about 6-7 years. For what I paid for the material, I should have just bought a heavy duty set. Now that I have amazon, ebay, etc..I would just buy them there. Make sure they are at least 2 gauge preferably.

I've been using some Harbor Freight and they are holding up well.

Ive always bought the heavy duty ones from Napa. The ones somewhere in the $100 dollar range. Ive gone through two sets in the last 18 years. They will jump anything you hook them to.

I'm pretty sure our local welding shop has them made up. I have no idea how much they are.
